President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Paris, France, for the second phase of his three-week annual leave in Europe, following his stay in London, United Kingdom.
Tinubu arrived in the French capital on Sunday, September 13, and was received by Nigeria’s Ambassador to France, Emmanuel Ayodele Oke. The trip marks the latest stage of the President’s European vacation, which began after his departure from Abuja on August 30.
The Presidency had earlier announced that Tinubu would spend three weeks on annual leave, with London identified as his first destination. Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the break as a “working vacation,” indicating that the President would remain engaged with developments while away from Nigeria.
Tinubu’s arrival in France comes at a politically significant period, with preparations for the 2027 general elections already gathering momentum. The President was named chairman of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima was designated vice chairman.
The vacation has attracted public attention because of the President’s responsibility to oversee national affairs while away from the country. However, the Presidency has maintained that the trip forms part of Tinubu’s scheduled annual leave and that he is expected to return to Nigeria after the three-week break.
Tinubu’s Paris stop is not officially described as a state visit, and the Presidency has not announced a detailed public itinerary for his stay in France. His arrival therefore represents the continuation of his annual leave rather than a newly announced diplomatic engagement.
The President began his vacation on August 30, after leaving Abuja for London. His expected return later in September will coincide with renewed domestic political activities and preparations ahead of the 2027 elections.
