Nigerian comedian and content creator Prophet Rolex has publicly addressed the controversy surrounding TMT Travels and Tours, apologising to people who allegedly lost money in connection with the company’s visa-related services.
The social media personality came under scrutiny because of his previous association with the travel company, where he reportedly served as a brand ambassador. Some individuals who claimed to have been affected by the company’s operations questioned the role of celebrities who promoted its services.
Responding to the controversy, Prophet Rolex said he did not anticipate that the situation would develop into what it has become and appealed to those who believe they were affected to forgive him.
“Please, to all the victims of the TMT visa scam, forgive me. I had no idea the whole issue would turn out this way,” he said.
Rolex also sought to distance himself from the company’s business operations, explaining that his relationship with TMT was based on an ambassadorial arrangement.
He disclosed that his ambassadorial agreement with the company covered the period between 2022 and 2024.
The development has renewed conversations about the responsibilities of public figures who endorse businesses, particularly companies operating in areas such as travel, immigration and visa processing.
While celebrity endorsements can help businesses gain credibility and attract customers, the TMT controversy has highlighted the importance of customers conducting their own checks before making financial commitments.
Reports concerning TMT and its chief executive, Ifeanyi Onukwubiri, have generated public concern, with allegations of visa-related financial misconduct circulating online.
