The Presidency has responded to allegations surrounding an alleged ₦600 million fraud case, clarifying that the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, does not possess the constitutional authority to make federal appointments.
The clarification followed claims made by Adeyemi, who allegedly linked the Chief of Staff to promises of government appointments in connection with the reported fraud allegations. In its response, the Presidency distanced Gbajabiamila from the claims, insisting that appointments into federal offices are made in accordance with constitutional procedures and established government processes.
According to presidential officials, the Chief of Staff’s responsibilities are administrative and advisory in nature and do not include the power to independently appoint individuals into public office. The statement urged members of the public to disregard any person claiming to influence federal appointments through the office of the Chief of Staff.
The Presidency also emphasized that anyone engaging in fraudulent activities by falsely claiming connections to senior government officials should be reported to the appropriate law enforcement agencies for investigation and possible prosecution.
Officials reiterated the Tinubu administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and due process in all government appointments. They stressed that appointments are based on constitutional provisions, statutory guidelines, and presidential approval where applicable.
