Politicians United Against Peter Obi Because He Represents Change — Aisha Yesufu

Prominent activist and political commentator Aisha Yesufu has said that the growing criticism of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi across Nigeria’s political landscape is clear evidence that he represents genuine change and poses a threat to the entrenched political order.

In a strongly worded statement shared with supporters, Yesufu argued that the unusual convergence of attacks on Obi from politicians across party lines reflects fear within the political establishment over a rising youth-driven movement demanding accountability and systemic reform.

“For the first time in the history of Nigeria, all the politicians from all the political parties are fighting one man called Peter Obi,” Yesufu said.

According to her, the resistance Obi faces should not discourage his supporters but rather serve as confirmation that his message resonates with Nigerians—especially the youth—who are eager for a break from politics as usual.

Yesufu maintained that the sustained criticism is rooted in the political class’s recognition that Obi represents a departure from the old order.

“The fight against Peter Obi shows that Nigerian youths have truly made the right choice to change the system. Nigerian politicians truly know that Peter Obi is different from them, and that is the reason they are fighting him,” she said.

She further warned that more prominent politicians may soon intensify efforts to undermine Obi’s chances by publicly declaring that he cannot win, a tactic she described as psychological warfare aimed at weakening grassroots support.

“More prominent politicians will soon come out to tell you that Peter Obi will not win so that we will stop supporting him,” she stated.

Reaffirming her position, Yesufu urged Obi’s supporters to remain steadfast, insisting that criticism from political elites is only strengthening the movement.

“The more politicians criticise Peter Obi, the more we support him. We move!!!”

Yesufu, a leading voice in civic activism and youth political mobilisation, has remained consistent in advocating citizen-led participation in governance. Her remarks have further intensified national debate around political reform, generational leadership change, and the growing influence of grassroots movements in shaping Nigeria’s democratic future.
