Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, has weighed in on a growing conversation about life after the reality show, backing fellow former housemate Tochi’s advice that ex-contestants should look beyond celebrity status and focus on sustainable sources of income.
Tochi recently urged BBNaija ex-housemates experiencing financial difficulties to abandon what he described as the “celebrity mentality” and return to hustling.
“If you’re a Bbnaija Ex housemate and you’re going through a rough patch, listen, pack up all that ‘I am a celebrity’ nonsense and lock it inside a box and come out and hustle,” Tochi wrote on X.
Reacting to the message, Phyna said she agreed with the reality star and questioned the emphasis placed on brand endorsements as a measure of success among former housemates.
“Finally someone said it,” Phyna wrote, arguing that some ex-housemates appear to believe they should simply carry the celebrity title and wait for brand deals.
She further alleged that publicly announced endorsement figures may sometimes differ significantly from the actual amount received by the celebrity. According to Phyna, a deal worth ₦5 million could allegedly be presented publicly as ₦50 million, while management fees could further reduce the artiste’s earnings.
“Make una keep deceiving una sef with brand deals,” she added, criticising what she described as a culture of measuring status by endorsement numbers.
