Nollywood actress Oluebube Obio has claimed that she was forced to attend an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign event in Bayelsa State, saying her life and safety were not guaranteed.
The actress made the allegation on social media after facing criticism over videos showing her participating in the political gathering. Footage from the event showed Obio on stage and involved in activities at the programme, prompting some Nigerians to question her decision to appear at the APC event.
Responding to the backlash, Obio said her appearance did not reflect the circumstances surrounding her participation. She alleged that she had been forced into the situation and was being blackmailed.
“I was actually forced to be in such settings, my life and safety is not guaranteed, if you watch the video closely, I myself felt so much discomfort and stressed up,” she wrote.
The actress added: “When the time is right I will expose the people blackmailing me, the least you can do is to pray for me.”
Obio, however, did not identify the individuals she accused of forcing or blackmailing her. She also did not provide details about what allegedly led to her attendance at the campaign event.
The controversy is significant because it highlights the growing intersection between Nigeria’s entertainment industry and partisan politics ahead of the 2027 general elections. It also raises questions about the extent to which entertainers may face pressure when appearing at political events.
