Fresh controversy has erupted in Kano State following allegations that women’s underwear bearing the campaign image and poster of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf were allegedly distributed to women as part of political mobilisation efforts.
Photos circulating widely on social media show pants reportedly printed with the governor’s campaign-style poster boldly displayed on the front, triggering widespread criticism and heated public debate. Many Nigerians described the act as inappropriate, disrespectful, and an embarrassment to women, arguing that political campaigns should not descend to such levels.
Critics accused those behind the move of reducing women to political tools and using indecent materials for voter attraction, while others questioned the authenticity of the photos and alleged that political opponents may be behind the circulation of the images to discredit the governor ahead of future elections.
Supporters of Governor Yusuf insisted that no official government programme or campaign team had announced such an initiative, warning against spreading unverified claims capable of causing unnecessary political tension in the state.
As of the time of reporting, the Kano State Government has not issued any formal statement confirming or denying the allegation. However, the controversy has continued to dominate conversations both online and offline, with many calling for proper investigation into the source of the materials.
Political analysts note that with the 2027 general elections gradually approaching, unusual propaganda, image battles, and politically motivated controversies are expected to intensify across major political strongholds like Kano.
