The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it is reviewing the results of the 2026 Osun State governorship election before deciding on its next course of action, including the possibility of challenging the outcome in court.
The party disclosed this after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Governor Ademola Adeleke the winner of the August 15 election, securing a second term in office.
The Osun APC said its leadership was studying results from polling units and wards across the state as part of efforts to determine whether there were grounds for further action.
The party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, said the election process does not end with the declaration of a winner, noting that political parties have constitutional avenues available to them.
“We are not unaware of the fact that an election is a process which begins with the registration of voters, through the primary election to the election proper, and extends to the Tribunal, the Court of Appeal and terminates at the Supreme Court,” the party stated.
The development is significant because any decision by the APC to challenge the result could prolong the political contest following an election that attracted considerable national attention.
INEC declared Adeleke the winner after he polled 511,067 votes, defeating the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes. Adeleke won by a margin of 66,252 votes.
Adeleke contested under the Accord Party, having moved away from the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2026 election.
The APC’s decision to review the results also comes amid broader discussions about the conduct of the election, including allegations and counter-allegations involving the electoral process.
For now, the party has not confirmed that it will file a legal challenge. Instead, it says it will assess the available results and evidence before determining its next step.
The development keeps the possibility of an electoral tribunal case open, while attention shifts toward Adeleke’s second term and the political lessons parties are drawing from the Osun contest ahead of the 2027 general elections.
