Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has called on House of Representatives member James Faleke to respect the choice of Osun voters amid the ongoing collation of results from the state governorship election.
Davido made the appeal in a post on X on Saturday as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continued the process of collating results from the August 15 election.
The singer, who is a nephew of incumbent Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke, accused Faleke of allegedly putting pressure on INEC to alter the outcome of the election.
“James Faleke, stop putting pressure on INEC to change Osun election result. Respect the wishes of Osun people. We don’t want Oyetola and AMBO,” Davido wrote.
The claim has not been independently established. Neither Faleke nor INEC had publicly responded to the allegation at the time of reporting.
Davido’s intervention has added another high-profile voice to an increasingly watched electoral process. His involvement is also significant because of his close family relationship with Adeleke, whose administration is seeking another term under the Accord Party.
The election has featured a competitive contest involving Adeleke, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
INEC’s ongoing collation remains the authoritative process for determining the winner. Until the commission completes verification and formally declares a result, emerging figures and claims from political actors remain provisional.
The Osun election is particularly important because the state has a history of closely fought political contests. In the 2022 governorship election, Adeleke defeated then-incumbent Gboyega Oyetola of the APC.
As collation continues, attention remains focused on INEC and the competing political camps. The final declaration will determine whether Adeleke retains the Osun governorship or whether voters have opted for a change in leadership.
