Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has raised an alarm over the ongoing collation of results from the Osun State governorship election, alleging that Senate President Godswill Akpabio asked the collation centre to stop the process.
Davido made the allegation in a post on X as results from Saturday’s election began emerging across the state.
“Sen. President Akpabio has called the collation center that they should stop collation!!!!” the singer wrote.
The allegation has added tension to an already closely watched electoral process. However, the claim has not been substantiated. FactCheckAfrica reported that it found no credible media report or statement from Akpabio’s verified social media accounts confirming that he ordered the suspension of result collation.
The development is particularly significant because Davido is the nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking another term in office. The singer has been outspoken throughout the election, using his large social media following to comment on the conduct of the poll and defend the interests of voters.
Earlier, Adeleke also alleged that security personnel were being withdrawn from polling and collation centres, warning that such a move could expose voters and electoral officials to attacks.
The election has attracted national attention, with Adeleke contesting under the Accord Party against Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other candidates.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) remains responsible for the collation, verification and declaration of the official results. As the process continues, competing claims from political actors and public figures are expected to generate further reactions.
