Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has revealed that she turned down several lucrative opportunities, including offers linked to politics, because she was unwilling to compromise her principles.
The actress made the disclosure while speaking on the Afropolitan podcast, where she reflected on the financial opportunities she has encountered throughout her career and the importance of remaining committed to her values.
Omotola said some of the opportunities could have made her extremely wealthy, but accepting them could have affected what she represents publicly.
“If I wanted to be a billionaire, I would have been one easily,” she said, explaining that there were situations where she could have accepted money without people knowing that she had compromised her position.
She added that some of the offers were not necessarily wrong or illegal but could have conflicted with her beliefs.
“Many times. Even in politics,” Omotola said, noting that she had opportunities where she could have compromised her stance and been paid handsomely but chose to walk away.
The actress explained that her decision was not always easy, particularly when the opportunities did not initially appear problematic.
“Sometimes, I am tempted to compromise because they don’t appear bad, but I would still walk away eventually,” she said. “Because in the long run, it will dilute my message.”
Omotola also said that rejecting major financial opportunities has sometimes been followed by what she described as a “financial miracle,” suggesting that walking away from certain deals did not leave her without alternatives.
Her comments are significant amid ongoing discussions about celebrities, political appointments and the potential tension between financial opportunities and personal convictions.
Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde remains one of Nigeria’s most recognisable Nollywood actresses, with a career spanning several decades. Her latest disclosure adds to broader conversations about integrity, celebrity influence and participation in Nigeria’s political space.
