Abuja, August 6, 2026 — The Office of former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has dismissed allegations made by Mr. Solomon Ighoyohwo, describing the claims as inaccurate and politically motivated.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Senator’s Media Adviser, Sunny Areh, the office said Mr. Ighoyohwo was appointed as a Legislative Aide after the 2019 general election in fulfillment of a campaign commitment made during the APC campaign tour to Ethiope East Ward 5 in Delta State.
According to the statement, Mr. Ighoyohwo received his salaries and all statutory entitlements throughout his tenure, adding that there are no outstanding obligations owed to him.
The office further stated that Mr. Ighoyohwo voluntarily resigned his appointment in 2022 and also left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he reportedly campaigned for the PDP governorship candidate, Sheriff Oborevwori, during the 2023 general election against Senator Omo-Agege.
The statement noted that Mr. Ighoyohwo later returned to the APC following Governor Oborevwori’s defection and argued that any political promises or expectations arising from his subsequent affiliations were matters for those political actors, not Senator Omo-Agege, who is now a member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Describing the allegations as a “recycled political smear,” the office alleged that the claims were aimed at dragging the Senator into issues unrelated to him and distracting from more substantive political matters.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Omo-Agege owes Mr. Ighoyohwo nothing. All obligations owed to him were fully discharged while he served in this Office,” the statement said.
The Senator’s office maintained that Omo-Agege remains focused on his campaign for the Delta Central Senatorial District under the platform of the NDC and reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Delta Central, Delta State, and Nigeria.
The statement also urged the media and the public to treat Mr. Ighoyohwo’s allegations with caution, insisting they should not be used for political gain.
