Olaide Olabanji Accuses Nollywood Actors of Backing Politicians for Personal Gain

Nollywood actor Olaide Olabanji has criticised some of his colleagues for allegedly supporting politicians whose leadership, he claims, has contributed to Nigeria’s economic and social challenges.

Olabanji made the remarks in an Instagram video while discussing the difficulties faced by Nigerians and the condition of the country’s healthcare system. He argued that entertainers have significant platforms and should use them to demand better governance rather than remain silent.

According to the actor, some entertainers support politicians because of what he described as “stomach infrastructure” and personal benefits. He questioned whether financial rewards received during election campaigns could provide lasting benefits for the entertainers and their families.

“We contributed to where Nigeria is today. Yet, we keep supporting evil,” Olabanji said, urging his colleagues to speak out when government policies or actions negatively affect citizens.

The actor also criticised entertainers who participated in distributing food items, including rice and beans, during political campaigns. He questioned whether the money allegedly paid to them during the 2023 general elections still had value amid rising living costs.

“Can the money you received for the campaign build your children’s future?” he asked.

Olabanji further pointed to challenges in Nigeria’s healthcare sector, electricity supply, roads and security. He argued that many politicians have access to overseas medical treatment, while ordinary Nigerians and entertainers often struggle to access quality healthcare domestically.
