Nnaji Denies Political Ambitions Amid Rumours of Election Bid

Fresh clarifications have emerged regarding the political status of renowned Nigerian engineer and former minister, Bart Nnaji, as his office firmly denied widespread rumours suggesting he is preparing to contest in an upcoming general election.

In a statement issued by his communications team, the former Minister of Power and ex-Minister of Science and Technology was said to have no interest in seeking any political office. The clarification follows the circulation of posters and campaign-style messages portraying him as a potential candidate, with slogans such as “The Man Our State Needs” and “The Best Man for Leadership.”

Despite an earlier disclaimer, the statement noted that speculation has persisted, prompting an influx of messages from supporters across Nigeria and abroad expressing encouragement and solidarity for a perceived candidacy.

The statement emphasized that Bart Nnaji is not affiliated with any political party and has not indicated, either directly or indirectly, any intention to enter politics. It suggested that those promoting the rumours may be acting out of mischief or attempting to leverage his reputation to advance political interests.

According to the statement, Nnaji’s current focus remains on the growth of Geometric Power, the integrated electricity company he founded and chairs. The firm, which operates within the Aba power ring-fence area and supplies electricity to parts of neighbouring Rivers State, is described as playing a significant role in Nigeria’s energy sector and broader economic development.

The communications team further urged journalists and the public to disregard any claims linking Nnaji to political ambitions or party membership, reiterating that his priority is contributing to national development through the power sector.

The statement concluded with a call for responsible reporting and an appeal to avoid spreading unverified information regarding the respected academic and industrialist’s intentions.
