A fresh wave of violence has struck the Irigwe community of Angwan Magaji in Kamaru Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, leaving nine people dead and eleven others injured following an attack reportedly carried out late on June 16, 2026.
According to a security report, the victims included men, women, and children. Those killed were identified as Jerry Doctor (51), Danlami Magani (49), Sunday Chibi (53), Rita Abdullahi (45), Sunday Elkan (5), Esther Kefas (5), Happy Friday (6), Moses Daddy (4), and Daddy Ibrahim (28).
Eleven other residents sustained varying degrees of injuries during the attack. They were identified as Halla Monday (7), Mary Yohanna (9), Jummai John (42), Charity Danjuma (49), Faith Yakubu (26), Omi Yakubu (48), Ali Sandiye (70), Asabe Victor (29), Srarina Simon (4), Talatu Sunday (60), and ThankGod Danladi (8).
The latest incident adds to a growing list of violent attacks that have affected Irigwe communities in recent years, raising renewed concerns over the security situation in parts of Kaduna State and the protection of vulnerable rural populations.
Community leaders and concerned residents have called on relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation, apprehend those responsible, and ensure that justice is served for the victims and their families.
The attack has once again highlighted the urgent need for enhanced security measures, early-warning mechanisms, and sustained peacebuilding efforts in affected communities.
