The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commenced the final phase of its 2025 recruitment exercise, with shortlisted candidates undergoing documentation, physical fitness assessments and medical screening in Abuja.
The two-week screening exercise began on September 7, 2026, at the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Gwagwalada, and is scheduled to run until September 19. The exercise covers candidates shortlisted for the Assistant Superintendent of Customs II, Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres.
To manage the large number of candidates and prevent congestion at the screening centre, the Customs Service is conducting the exercise in batches based on the alphabetical order of candidates’ states of origin.
Speaking during the exercise, the Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Human Resource Development, Frank Onyeka, said applicants were being assessed on more than their physical fitness.
“Beyond physical requirements, your attitude, discipline, and conduct are critical factors in deciding who ultimately joins the Service,” Onyeka said.
He urged candidates to remain orderly and comply with all screening guidelines. The NCS also said it was working with the Customs Police and other relevant units to protect the integrity and security of the recruitment process.
The development is significant for thousands of Nigerian job seekers who participated in the highly competitive Customs recruitment exercise. The final screening represents a major step toward selecting candidates who will eventually join the paramilitary organisation.
The Commandant of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Assistant Comptroller-General Dow Gaura, said administrative innovations and inter-agency collaboration had helped make the exercise seamless and efficient.
Screening for the Assistant Superintendent cadre was scheduled to conclude on September 10, while assessments for Inspectorate and Customs Assistant candidates will continue until September 19.
The Nigeria Customs recruitment exercise is part of the Service’s broader effort to strengthen its workforce and improve operational capacity.
