The Labour Party has expressed relief and excitement following the official recognition of its Interim National Leadership by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a press release issued on Friday, the party confirmed that INEC has formally recognised the Interim National Leadership led by Senator Nenadi E. Usman as the valid and lawful leadership of the Labour Party. The recognition, the party noted, is in strict compliance with the recent judgment of the Federal High Court, which directed INEC to recognise Senator Usman’s leadership as the only legitimate authority of the party, to the exclusion of all other claimants.
According to the statement, the party appreciates INEC’s leadership for “standing firmly on the side of the law, justice, and constitutionalism,” and for demonstrating obedience to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Labour Party described the development as a turning point that effectively ends months of internal uncertainty and distractions. It called on members across the federation to close ranks and support the interim leadership as it works to reposition the party ahead of forthcoming elections.
Reaffirming its role as a major opposition party, the Labour Party said it remains committed to offering Nigerians a credible, people-oriented alternative platform, stressing that unity, dedication, and collective sacrifice are essential to achieving this objective.
The party also expressed gratitude to its supporters nationwide for their resilience and steadfastness, commended the judiciary for upholding justice, and praised the Nigerian media for its principled pursuit of truth and fairness.
As it intensifies efforts to rebuild and strengthen its structures nationwide, the party appealed for patience and continued support from Nigerians, assuring the public of its determination to restore the Labour Party to winning ways ahead of the next election cycle.
The statement was signed by Ken Eluma Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser on Media to the Interim National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, and dated 31st January, 2026.
