The Labour Party has announced that its National Executive Committee (NEC) will convene on June 11, 2026, to ratify the results of the party’s recently concluded nationwide primary elections and formally approve the submission of its candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the party disclosed that the meeting is being held in compliance with Article 28 of the Labour Party Constitution 2026 and will bring together statutory NEC members, candidates who emerged from the primaries, party stakeholders, electoral officials, members of the media, and other interested observers.
According to the statement, the NEC meeting will officially validate the outcomes of the primary elections conducted across the federation and authorize the submission of the names of successful candidates to Independent National Electoral Commission in line with the Electoral Act and party regulations.
The party further announced that the presentation of Certificates of Return to candidates who emerged for the offices of President, Governor, Senate, and House of Representatives will commence immediately after the NEC ratifies the primary election results.
Labour Party described the upcoming NEC session as a critical milestone in its preparations for the 2027 elections, noting that it will be the first NEC meeting following the party’s successful National Convention and the emergence of its candidates for the forthcoming polls.
Political observers view the meeting as a significant step in consolidating the party’s internal processes and strengthening its organizational structure as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The June 11 NEC meeting is expected to provide a clear roadmap for the party’s next phase of mobilization, campaign coordination, and engagement with voters nationwide.
