Labour Party Felicitates Nigerian Workers, Calls for Better Welfare and Economic Relief

The Labour Party has extended warm felicitations to Nigerian workers across the country on the occasion of International Workers’ Day, describing the celebration as both symbolic and deeply rooted in the party’s identity and ideological foundation.

In a press statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the party noted that since its registration in 2003, it has remained closely aligned with the struggles, aspirations, and welfare demands of Nigerian workers.

The party described May Day as more than a ceremonial observance, stressing that it represents a reminder of ongoing struggles for fair wages, decent working conditions, and social justice in Nigeria.

While acknowledging recent government interventions, including the increase in the national minimum wage, the Labour Party maintained that such measures remain insufficient in the face of rising inflation, cost of living pressures, and economic hardship affecting workers nationwide.

The party also commended major labour unions, including the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), along with their affiliate bodies, for what it described as their consistent commitment to defending workers’ rights and national development.

Reaffirming its political stance, the Labour Party declared its solidarity with Nigerian workers, pledging continued advocacy for good governance, fair remuneration, and adherence to international labour standards as outlined by the International Labour Organisation.

Looking ahead to future elections, the party urged workers to remain steadfast in their support, insisting that it remains the political platform most aligned with their interests and collective aspirations.

The statement concluded with a rallying call for perseverance and hope in the ongoing struggle for justice and equity in the country, reaffirming its slogan: “Aluta continua, victoria ascerta!”
