Labour Party Disowns Social Media Accounts, Flags Fraudulent X Handle

The Labour Party Nigeria has reaffirmed that it is not currently operating any social media accounts, warning the public against relying on unauthorized platforms falsely claiming to represent the party.
In a statement dated April 19, 2026, the party reiterated its earlier position first communicated on February 9, stressing that its official communication channels remain limited to verified press releases issued by the Office of the Interim National Chairman.
The party specifically raised alarm over a fraudulent account on X operating under the name “LABOUR PARTY (LP) NIG” with the handle @LabourpartyNGR_, describing it as deceptive and misleading. According to the statement, preliminary findings indicate that the account is the same one previously disowned, with its operators merely changing its name and handle to continue impersonation.
For clarity, the party listed its known but currently inactive social media platforms as Facebook: Labour Party-Nig and X: LabourPartyNG, noting that both are not in use at the moment.
The party further disclosed that it has petitioned the Nigerian Police to recover control of its official X account from elements within the former leadership. It confirmed that individuals including Julius Abure and Alhaji Umar Farouk are cooperating with authorities at the Force Intelligence Department under the supervision of the Deputy Inspector General of Police.
The Labour Party also dismissed circulating claims suggesting it is expecting the return of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, describing such reports as entirely false and unauthorized.
It urged the general public to disregard any information emanating from the flagged accounts, including posts from LabourPartyNG, until the ongoing investigation is concluded and official channels are restored.
The party expressed appreciation to the media for its continued professionalism and vigilance in reporting its activities.
