Bauchi PDP Rejects APC, Puts ADC Option on the Table

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State, Samaila Adamu Burga, has firmly dismissed growing speculation that Governor Bala Mohammed is planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that recent political engagements with the ruling party ended without any meaningful agreement.

Burga explained that what had been widely interpreted as high-level defection negotiations were in fact exploratory harmonisation talks aimed at assessing possible political alignment. However, according to him, those discussions collapsed after both sides failed to reach a consensus on key political and structural issues.

He stressed that Governor Bala Mohammed remains a committed member of the PDP and has no intention of abandoning the party, despite ongoing realignments across Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections. The chairman further noted that the Bauchi PDP leadership is united and not under any internal pressure that could trigger a defection.

In a notable twist, Burga revealed that discussions around alternative political alignments are ongoing, adding that a proposal involving the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is now on the table. While he did not provide full details, the remark signals that broader coalition considerations may be under review as opposition figures explore new pathways ahead of 2027.

Political observers say the clarification is significant, given the wave of defections and alliance-building currently shaping Nigeria’s political space. Governor Bala Mohammed, a prominent northern political figure and former minister, has been widely viewed as a potential target for the APC as it seeks to consolidate influence in opposition-controlled states.

Burga’s remarks highlight the fluidity of ongoing political calculations, where failed negotiations with one bloc could open the door to alternative alliances. The emergence of the ADC option suggests that conversations around coalition-building outside the traditional PDP-APC divide are gaining traction.

Reaffirming the party’s position, the PDP leadership in Bauchi maintained that its focus remains on strengthening internal cohesion while keeping strategic options open. The development underscores the shifting dynamics ahead of 2027, where alliances, mergers, and political recalibration continue to redefine Nigeria’s opposition landscape.
