Nigerian Afrobeats singer Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, popularly known as Joeboy, has revealed that he would prefer to get married early and keep his marriage away from public attention.
The 29-year-old singer shared his views on marriage during an interview with British media personality Madame Joyce, explaining that he likes the idea of starting a family while still young.
Joeboy said his perspective was partly influenced by Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson, who previously expressed regret about not getting married earlier. According to the singer, hearing such a view from someone known for his reputation as a “ladies’ man” made him reconsider the advantages of settling down young.
“I was like, if you’re a playboy and you can say this, that means marrying early might actually be nice,” Joeboy said.
He stressed that marriage should ultimately be based on genuine love and finding the right partner rather than simply following a particular timeline.
“That is not the only identifier for me. But marrying early to someone who you genuinely love is going to be cute,” he said.
However, Joeboy made it clear that any marriage he enters would likely remain private. He said that even if he got married immediately, he would not announce it publicly.
“Personally, I would rather get married early. But if I get married right now, nobody is going to know,” he stated.
The singer jokingly suggested that fans might only discover he had a family after he had welcomed several children, saying they could find out when he has “like three kids.”
