INEC Recognises Labour Party’s Umuahia Convention Leadership, Updates Party Records

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally complied with the outcome of the Labour Party’s 2026 National Elective Convention held in Umuahia, Abia State, by recognising the party’s newly elected national leadership in line with the convention’s resolutions.
The development is widely seen as a significant milestone in resolving the party’s prolonged leadership dispute and strengthening its organisational structure ahead of the 2027 general elections. INEC’s recognition follows a series of court decisions and the successful conduct of the convention, where a new National Working Committee (NWC) was elected through a consensus process.
Among the officials elected at the convention are:
National Chairman – Senator Nenadi Usman
Deputy National Chairman – Mrs. Nike Oriola
National Secretary – Rt. Hon. Iheanacho Obioma
National Publicity Secretary – Ken Eluma Asogwa
National Organising Secretary – Mrs. Oluchi Oparah
National Financial Secretary – Comrade Anslem Eragbe
National Women Leader – Hilda Dokubo

The convention also elected numerous other national officers into the party’s National Working Committee and broader national executive structure.
Party leaders and supporters have welcomed INEC’s compliance, describing it as a reaffirmation of internal democracy and a step toward greater unity as the Labour Party prepares for the 2027 electoral cycle.
