Six Argentina internationals are reportedly facing FIFA disciplinary investigations following incidents that occurred during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The players named in the reports are Nahuel Molina, Leandro Paredes, Thiago Almada, Cristian Romero, Lisandro Martínez and Giovani Lo Celso.
The investigations stem from separate events during Argentina’s World Cup campaign, which ended with a defeat to Spain in the final. Spain claimed the championship after Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in extra time.
Following the conclusion of the final, players from both teams were involved in an on-field confrontation that has since attracted the attention of football’s governing body.
Leandro Paredes is reportedly being investigated over allegations of assault during the post-match altercation, while Nahuel Molina and Thiago Almada are facing review for alleged unsporting behaviour.
In addition, Cristian Romero, Lisandro Martínez and Giovani Lo Celso are the subject of a separate FIFA inquiry linked to the display of a Falklands-themed banner after Argentina’s semi-final victory over England.
Reports have suggested that, depending on the outcome of the investigations, disciplinary sanctions could affect the players’ participation in future FIFA competitions, including the 2030 World Cup.
FIFA has yet to announce its findings or confirm whether any of the players will face suspensions or other disciplinary measures as the investigations continue.
