Arsenal striker Viktor Gyökeres is reportedly unhappy with the club after allegedly being told to leave during the summer transfer window.
Broadcaster Piers Morgan claimed the Sweden international feels “disrespected” by manager Mikel Arteta after Arsenal allegedly considered using him in a potential swap deal for Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez.
Speaking on Sports Uncensored, Morgan said he had been told that Gyökeres was deliberately left out of Arsenal’s opening Premier League matches while the club explored a possible transfer.
“Viktor Gyökeres has hardly had a kick since the season started and I was told on good authority that he was being deliberately benched,” Morgan said.
He added that Arsenal had been looking to trade the striker for Álvarez but that the proposed deal ultimately failed to materialise.
“I was told that Gyökeres is p****d off about the way he’s been treated and feels he’s been disrespected,” Morgan claimed.
The reports have raised questions about Gyökeres’ role at Arsenal, particularly after he failed to feature in the club’s first two league games of the 2026/27 season. He eventually made his first appearance as a substitute during Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea.
The situation is significant because Gyökeres was signed for around £64 million in 2025 and was expected to provide a major attacking option for Arteta. Despite scoring 14 Premier League goals in his debut campaign, questions have continued over his position in the team.
