The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election. The declaration was made in Ado-Ekiti following the conclusion of vote collation across the state’s 16 local government areas.
According to the final results announced by the Returning Officer, Professor Adenike Oladiji, Oyebanji secured 319,224 votes to defeat his closest rival, Oluwole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 40,543 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Oluwadare Bejide, came third with 12,872 votes.
The APC candidate recorded victories in all 16 local government areas, reinforcing the party’s strong political presence in Ekiti State. INEC disclosed that 384,940 voters were accredited for the election, while 375,777 valid votes were cast. A total of 6,332 votes were rejected.
Oyebanji’s re-election marks a significant milestone in Ekiti politics, giving him a fresh four-year mandate to continue his administration’s development agenda. Political observers attribute the landslide victory to his performance in governance, broad political support, and effective grassroots mobilization across the state.
