Driver in Anthony Joshua’s Fatal Accident Appears in Court on Reckless Driving Charges

Adeniyi Kayode, the 46-year-old driver involved in the December 29, 2025, accident that claimed the lives of professional boxer Anthony Joshua’s friends, appeared in court on Tuesday, January 20, at the Sagamu Magistrate Court in Ogun State, where his trial is scheduled to begin.

Kayode faces four charges: dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, and driving without a valid national driver’s license. The court granted him bail of ₦5,000,000 with two sureties, and the case was adjourned to commence trial on the same day.

The tragic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway reportedly resulted from excessive speed and wrongful overtaking. While Joshua survived the crash, his personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, lost their lives.

Journalists, legal practitioners, and members of the public are currently at the court premises awaiting the commencement of proceedings.

The case has drawn significant attention due to Joshua’s prominence in the sporting world and the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
