Survivors of the Minna gold miners’ incident have raised disturbing allegations about their alleged treatment in the custody of personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), claiming that detainees were locked inside a small, poorly ventilated cell before a chemical was reportedly sprayed into the confined space.
The allegations were featured in a viral video clip shared by TVC on Facebook, in which a survivor recounted the events surrounding their detention and described the alleged conditions inside the cell.
According to the survivor, those detained were confined in a small room without adequate ventilation. He alleged that an NSCDC guard subsequently sprayed an unidentified chemical into the cell, after which children inside began to fall.
The account describes a situation in which the occupants allegedly struggled to cope with the effects of the substance while remaining locked inside the enclosed space. The survivor claimed that the detainees called out for water and assistance, hoping that officers on duty would intervene.
However, he alleged that their pleas were ignored and that the officers refused to open the door despite repeated calls for help.
