An Open letter to Ebonyi State ADC

COPDEM
Ebonyi State.
Date: 30th March, 2026.

The Leader,
National Working Committee (NWC),
African Democratic Congress (ADC)
Ebonyi State Chapter.

*A passionate Appeal and Request for Equitable Recognition and Democratic Processes in ADC Ebonyi State Chapter*

Dear Distinguished Chief Fred Onwe,

I write on behalf of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM), a duly recognized Political Action Group committed to advancing democratic values, good governance, and electoral integrity in Nigeria.

Following a thorough engagement with the ideology and vision of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), COPDEM entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the party on the 25th of January, 2025, with the shared objective of building a “New Nigeria” founded on transparency, accountability, and people-driven governance.

In line with this agreement, COPDEM was entrusted with the mobilization arm of the party and provided with registration materials to facilitate a nationwide membership drive. This responsibility was diligently executed, significantly contributing to the expansion and visibility of the party across various states, including Ebonyi State.

Subsequently, during the convergence meeting of coalition partners held on the 6th of June, 2025, at Akadike Suite, Abakaliki, COPDEM emerged as the sole partner in attendance within Ebonyi State. The meeting underscored the enormous task of grassroots mobilization required for the party’s success—a responsibility we embraced with commitment and sacrifice.

Further engagements with the State Chairman led to an understanding that COPDEM would be allocated three executive positions representing the three senatorial zones, and we duly submitted nominees accordingly. We also undertook extensive grassroots mobilization across the state in good faith.

However, we are constrained to express our deep concern over subsequent developments in Ebonyi State, particularly:

– The exclusion of COPDEM from key decision-making processes.
– The unilateral appointment of Local Government and Ward Executives without consultation or inclusion of our structure.
– The apparent disregard for earlier agreements and contributions made by COPDEM in building the party’s structure.
– The ongoing constitution of party structures is being dominated by select interest groups to the exclusion of others.

In view of the foregoing, we respectfully request the intervention of the National Working Committee, and the leadership of ADC in Ebonyi State on the following:

*1. Clarification and Definition of Coalition Groups:*
A clear identification and formal recognition of all coalition and interest groups that constitute the ADC Ebonyi State Chapter, to ensure inclusivity and proper representation.

*2. Recognition of COPDEM’s Contributions:*
A directive to the Ebonyi State Chapter to acknowledge and accord due recognition to COPDEM for its verifiable efforts in mobilization and party development.

*3. Equitable Distribution of Party Positions:*
The enforcement of democratic principles of equity and fairness in the allocation of positions across all levels—state, local government, ward, and polling units—ensuring no group is marginalized.

*4. Transparency in Upcoming Party Processes:*
Assurance that all forthcoming activities, including:

– Sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms
– Screening of Candidates
– Conduct of Congresses at all levels

are conducted with the highest standards of transparency, fairness, and democratic integrity, free from undue influence or manipulation.

Our commitment to the ideals of the ADC and the broader vision of a New Nigeria remains unwavering. However, sustaining this commitment requires a just, inclusive, and transparent internal party system that reflects the democratic values we collectively advocate.

We trust in your leadership and the capacity of the National Working Committee to address these concerns promptly and decisively in the interest of unity, fairness, and the continued growth of the party.

Thank you for your attention and anticipated action.

Yours faithfully,

…………………………………
