Former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has called on members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to unite and rally behind a credible presidential candidate ahead of the party’s 2026 convention.
Amaechi stressed the importance of cohesion within the party, noting that only a united front would position the ADC as a strong contender in the next general election. He urged party stakeholders to set aside internal differences and focus on identifying a viable candidate capable of winning broad national support.
The former Rivers State governor also expressed skepticism about the willingness of incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to relinquish power without a strong political challenge, underscoring the need for strategic alignment within opposition ranks.
Amaechi further attributed Nigeria’s current political challenges to longstanding divisions along ethnic and religious lines, warning that such fault lines have continued to weaken collective national progress.
His remarks come as political parties begin early positioning and consultations ahead of the 2026 electoral cycle, with increasing calls for coalition-building among opposition groups.
