ADC Legal Victory Paves Way for Ward Congresses, Consensus Flagbearer Emerges in Benue

Following a landmark court decision affirming the legitimacy of the state leadership of the African Democratic Congress in Benue State, the party has moved swiftly to consolidate its internal structure ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The judgment, which reportedly recognized the “legacy” state chairmen as the authentic leadership of the party, has been described by stakeholders as a turning point that restored order and stability within the party’s state chapter after a period of internal disputes.

With the legal clarity in place, the state leadership immediately proceeded to conduct ward congresses across the state, a critical step in grassroots mobilisation and party strengthening. Party officials say the congresses were widely attended and helped re-establish coordination at the ward level, ensuring inclusiveness and renewed confidence among members.

According to party sources, the successful completion of ward congresses created a unified platform for broader consultations, which eventually led to internal consensus-building among stakeholders.

It was during this structured process that Dr. Anongu Moses, the State Organizing Secretary of the African Democratic Congress in Benue State, emerged as the consensus governorship flagbearer after extensive deliberations aimed at promoting unity and electoral competitiveness.

Party leaders explained that the decision was not imposed but arrived at through consultations involving key stakeholders, ward delegates, and state executives who agreed on the need for a credible and widely acceptable candidate.

The development is being interpreted by political observers as an effort by the party to present a united front, strengthen internal democracy, and avoid post-primary crises that have historically weakened opposition parties.

Stakeholders within the party further emphasized that the court-backed legitimacy of the state executive provided the foundation for transparent congresses and credible candidate selection processes.

The emergence of a consensus flagbearer is expected to position the party for stronger grassroots engagement as preparations intensify for the upcoming elections in Benue State, with focus now shifting to mobilization, policy articulation, and voter outreach.

Party officials say the next phase will involve formal ratification of the candidate and wider consultations to ensure cohesion as the party prepares for the general elections.
