ADC Dissolves David Mark-Led Caretaker Committee, Elects New NWC in Abuja

Fresh developments have emerged from the ongoing national convention of the African Democratic Congress in Abuja, as delegates reportedly dissolved the National Working Committee caretaker structure led by former Senate President and elected a new National Working Committee headed by Alhaji Mohammed Abdulkadir Bashir.

The dramatic development comes amid prolonged leadership disputes and legal battles within the ADC, which have continued to generate uncertainty over the authentic leadership structure of the party ahead of the 2027 political season.

Political stakeholders monitoring the crisis note that the controversy deepened following recent court proceedings involving David Mark and Nafiu Bala. According to party sources, the Supreme Court had reportedly returned aspects of the dispute to the Federal High Court while setting aside an earlier status quo ante bellum order that had temporarily shaped the balance of power within the party.

Prior to the Supreme Court proceedings, the legacy ADC state chairmen had also secured a Federal High Court judgement nullifying certain ADC congresses and recognizing their structure as the legitimate National Executive Committee pending further developments.

The situation became even more complicated after Justice Nwite of the Federal High Court reportedly adjourned matters involving David Mark and Nafiu Bala sine die, leaving several political and legal questions unresolved.

Despite the uncertainty, nomination forms were reportedly sold while the national convention proceeded in Abuja under the supervision of the legacy leadership bloc.

Key Questions Emerging From the Crisis

Political observers and party faithful are now asking critical questions concerning the future of the ADC:

  • Who currently controls the authentic leadership structure of the party?
  • Which faction officially convened the ongoing national convention in Abuja?
  • Under which leadership structure did prominent opposition figures obtain nomination forms?
  • Has the party genuinely resolved its internal crisis?
  • What position will the eventually recognize?

Analysts believe the answers to these questions may ultimately depend on future court pronouncements and INEC’s official recognition of party leadership structures and convention outcomes.

The latest development is expected to intensify political realignments within the opposition coalition, especially as major political actors continue consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

More details are expected to emerge as the convention proceedings continue in Abuja.
