The Oyo State Government has honoured teachers, civilians and security personnel who lost their lives during the tragic school kidnapping and rescue operation in Oriire Local Government Area, describing their sacrifices as a testament to courage, patriotism and commitment to protecting lives.
The recognition comes in the aftermath of one of the state’s most devastating security incidents, in which armed gunmen attacked schools in Oriire, abducting dozens of pupils and teachers. The victims spent nearly two months in captivity before they were eventually rescued by security forces and handed over to the state authorities.
Speaking during the memorial ceremony, Governor Seyi Makinde expressed deep condolences to the families of those who lost loved ones during the attack and the rescue efforts.
