BREAKING: Yakubu Dogara Reportedly Set to Dump APC for NDC Over Muslim-Muslim Presidential Ticket

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, is reportedly preparing to leave the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing the party’s decision to retain a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket for the 2027 general election.

According to reports circulating on social media and political platforms, Dogara believes that the same-faith presidential ticket is not a viable option for a religiously and ethnically diverse country like Nigeria.

Dogara has consistently opposed the Muslim-Muslim ticket since it was first adopted by the APC in 2022, arguing that Nigeria’s diversity requires inclusive leadership that reflects the country’s religious and regional balance. In previous public statements, he warned that the arrangement could undermine national unity and called instead for justice, fairness, and equity in political representation.

If confirmed, Dogara’s reported defection would mark another significant political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections and could further reshape the opposition and ruling party landscape.

As of the time of this report, neither Dogara nor the APC has issued an official statement confirming the reported move.
