Medical practitioner, Dr. Folaseye, has called on the Federal Ministry of Defence (MOD) to urgently address the welfare of House Officers serving at the Naval Reference Hospital, Calabar, by paying their outstanding wages.
According to Dr. Folaseye, the affected House Officers have continued to render essential medical services despite not receiving their rightful remuneration, describing their wages as an entitlement rather than a privilege.
He urged the Ministry of Defence to act without further delay, emphasizing that doctors deserve to be treated with the dignity, respect, and fairness their profession demands.
“Kindly pay the House Officers working in your hospital their wages. It is their entitlement. They are doctors; please treat them with the dignity due to them,” he appealed.
The call adds to growing concerns over the welfare of young medical professionals in Nigeria, with stakeholders stressing that prompt payment of salaries is essential for sustaining morale and ensuring quality healthcare delivery.
