Public concern has intensified after SaharaReporters reported that Mary Habila, a physiotherapist, was found dead and naked inside the residence of Works Minister David Umahi in Uburu, Ebonyi State. The report has raised fresh questions about the circumstances surrounding her death and the minister’s account of how she came to be at the residence.

According to SaharaReporters, police sources have disputed Umahi’s claim that Habila and another woman were physiotherapists seconded from the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences. Investigators reportedly believe the women were brought from Kaduna State to attend to the minister, and the case has since been transferred to the Ebonyi State Criminal Investigation Department.
Civil society groups and members of the public have called for a transparent and impartial investigation, saying the matter should be handled with urgency and that all facts must be established through due process. They have also urged authorities to clarify the role of everyone involved, ensure accountability, and release the autopsy report to help establish the cause of death.
As scrutiny grows, stakeholders are demanding a full explanation of the events that led to Habila’s death and a clear response from the relevant authorities.
