Breaking: Nigerian Army Announces Major Shake-Up, Appoints New GOCs, Commanders

The Nigerian Army has announced a major reshuffle of its senior officers, with new appointments affecting key operational, command, training and administrative positions across the country.
The redeployment, approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, is aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness, enhancing leadership, and improving the Army’s capacity to tackle evolving security challenges nationwide.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele.
Under the new postings, Major General WM Dangana has been appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, replacing Major General EF Oyinlola.
Major General EI Okoro takes over as GOC 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE, succeeding Major General EE Emeka.
Other key appointments include Major General JR Lar as Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, while Brigadier General OM Oyekola assumes office as Acting Military Secretary (Army). Brigadier General I. Waziri retains his position as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff.
To bolster operational leadership, Brigadier General IB Buhari has been named Commander, Headquarters 63 Brigade, while Brigadier General K. Rabiu will head Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade.
In a move reflecting the military’s growing focus on technology-driven security operations, Major General SA Emmanuel has been appointed Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command.
The reshuffle also sees Major General O. Adegbe appointed Director of Intelligence and Security at Defence Headquarters.
Within the Army’s training and educational institutions, Major General KE Chigbu becomes Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College, Major General SD Makolo takes over as Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School, while Major General SO Adejimi has been appointed Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport. Major General FS Etim will serve as Chief of Training at the Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), and Brigadier General U. Ahmad has been appointed Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria.
In the administrative sector, Major General KO Ukandu has been named Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Post Housing Development Limited, while Major General AI Allison becomes Managing Director of Defence Properties Limited.
Lieutenant General Shaibu charged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating exemplary leadership, professionalism, innovation, and unwavering commitment to defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and supporting civil authorities in maintaining peace and security.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to its ongoing transformation agenda, emphasizing the goal of building a highly professional, combat-ready, and people-oriented force capable of addressing both present and future security challenges across the country.
