The leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has commenced efforts to resolve internal disagreements involving the Kwankwasiya Movement and party stakeholders in Kano State, following a high-level meeting held on Tuesday night.
According to a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Osa Director Esq, a delegation from the national leadership of the Kwankwasiya Movement met with the National Leader of the NDC, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, and other senior party officials in a closed-door session aimed at addressing concerns surrounding the party’s affairs in Kano.
The meeting, which lasted several hours, focused on resolving issues between the Kwankwasiya Movement and what the statement described as “legacy officials” of the party in the state. Party leaders reportedly discussed ways to strengthen unity, inclusiveness, and participation among members as the NDC continues to expand its political structures nationwide.
According to the statement, Senator Dickson and the national leadership of the party are playing a mediatory role in the reconciliation process to ensure that all stakeholders are adequately represented and that internal disputes are resolved through dialogue.
The party leadership reiterated its commitment to internal democracy, stressing that it would not impose candidates in Kano State or any other part of the country. The statement emphasized that all members would be given equal opportunities to participate in the party’s processes in line with democratic principles.
“The NDC leadership will not impose candidates in Kano State, and indeed across the nation, as the party cherishes the virtues of internal democracy,” the statement noted.
The development comes amid heightened political activities within the party as it prepares for future electoral contests. The growing influence of the Kwankwasiya Movement within the NDC has generated significant interest among political observers, particularly in Kano State, where the movement maintains a strong grassroots presence.
The party also addressed reports circulating on social media and other platforms regarding the outcome of its primary elections. According to the statement, the NDC has not officially released the results of any primary election in any state of the federation.
As a result, party members and the general public were advised to disregard any purported list of candidates or primary election results currently in circulation, describing such publications as unauthorized and misleading.
Observers believe the intervention by the national leadership could help strengthen party cohesion and prevent divisions that may undermine the NDC’s political objectives. The outcome of the reconciliation efforts in Kano is expected to have significant implications for the party’s organizational stability and future electoral prospects.
The NDC leadership expressed optimism that ongoing consultations would foster greater unity among members and reinforce confidence in the party’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and democratic participation.
