Governor Francis Nwifuru has appealed to the people of Ebonyi State for forgiveness over any shortcomings of his administration while seeking their continued support ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking in Abakaliki on Saturday, Nwifuru described governance as a continuous learning process that requires humility, public cooperation, and a willingness to acknowledge mistakes. He stressed that no government is perfect and that every administration faces challenges while striving to meet the expectations of the people.
The governor, who assumed office in May 2023, said his administration has remained focused on infrastructure development, economic growth, and improving the welfare of residents across the state.
Highlighting achievements under his government, Nwifuru pointed to the construction and rehabilitation of hundreds of kilometers of roads, ongoing flyover projects, and a 2026 budget that prioritizes capital expenditure and development projects.
According to him, these investments are aimed at improving transportation, stimulating economic activity, and creating a stronger foundation for future growth in Ebonyi State.
The governor also emphasized the need for unity and patience, arguing that meaningful development takes time and requires sustained public support.
His remarks have generated mixed reactions among residents and political observers.
Supporters praised what they described as a rare display of humility by a sitting governor, noting that acknowledging imperfections is an important part of accountable leadership.
Critics, however, argue that the administration still faces significant challenges, including concerns over unemployment, electricity supply, and other socio-economic issues affecting residents. Some have also questioned aspects of the government’s handling of political and administrative matters within the state.
Political analysts view the governor’s comments as an early effort to consolidate public support ahead of the next election cycle, with many incumbents across the country already beginning to defend their records and position themselves for future contests.
As political activities gradually intensify ahead of 2027.
