FG Delegation Visits Oyo Communities After School Abductions

A high-powered Federal Government delegation on Sunday visited the Esiele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State following the abduction of pupils and teachers from three schools on May 15, 2026.

The delegation’s visit comes amid growing national concern over the fate of the victims, who were kidnapped during attacks on Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.

During the visit, federal officials met with community leaders, parents, traditional rulers, and local stakeholders to assess the situation and reassure residents of the government’s commitment to securing the release of the abducted pupils and teachers.

The delegation also inspected affected areas and received briefings from security agencies and local authorities on ongoing rescue efforts.

The school abductions have sparked widespread outrage across the country, with education stakeholders, civil society groups, and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) demanding urgent action. The NUT recently directed teachers in Oyo State to withdraw their services indefinitely in protest over the continued captivity of their colleagues and students.

Community leaders reportedly appealed for increased security presence, improved surveillance, and sustained military and police operations in vulnerable areas to prevent further attacks.

Federal officials assured residents that security agencies were intensifying efforts to locate and rescue the victims while working to bring those responsible for the attacks to justice.

The abduction has renewed concerns about the safety of schools in parts of Nigeria, where kidnapping for ransom and attacks on educational institutions continue to pose serious challenges to access to education and community stability.

Parents and residents in the affected communities expressed hope that the federal intervention would accelerate rescue operations and provide lasting security measures to protect schools and surrounding communities.

The visit underscores the growing pressure on government authorities at both federal and state levels to address insecurity in rural communities and ensure the safe return of the abducted children and teachers.

As rescue efforts continue, families of the victims and concerned Nigerians remain anxious for positive developments in one of the country’s most troubling recent school abduction cases.
