The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to inaugurate its newly constituted Selection Committee today, Monday, May 25, 2026, as part of the party’s ongoing preparations for the forthcoming general elections.
According to a statement issued by the NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq., the inauguration follows the successful completion of the party’s nationwide screening exercise for governorship, National Assembly, and State Houses of Assembly aspirants.
The 21-member Selection Committee will be formally inaugurated at 4:00pm at the NDC National Secretariat by the party’s National Leader, Henry Seriake Dickson.
The committee, chaired by the NDC National Chairman, Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, has been mandated to review and scrutinize reports submitted by the National Screening Committee as well as various State Houses of Assembly Screening Committees. It is also expected to take final decisions on the screening outcomes of aspirants seeking the party’s tickets across the country.
The party stated that the Selection Committee was constituted in line with the NDC’s commitment to transparency, internal democracy, and credible candidate selection processes ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to the statement, the committee emerged from consultations involving the National Leader and recommendations of the National Working Committee (NWC), with the objective of ensuring that the party fields “the most formidable candidate for every position” in the general election.
Political observers view the inauguration as another major step in the NDC’s efforts to strengthen its internal structures and consolidate preparations for what is expected to be a highly competitive electoral cycle in Nigeria.
The development also signals the party’s determination to institutionalize due process in its candidate selection process amid growing national political realignments ahead of 2027.
