Breaking: NDC Constitutes National Selection Committee for Governorship, National Assembly Primaries

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has constituted a National Selection Committee to oversee the screening and selection process for its forthcoming Governorship and National Assembly primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party disclosed this in an official statement signed by Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, stating that the move is part of the party’s commitment to transparency, internal democracy, and credible candidate selection.

According to the statement, the decision was approved by the National Leader of the party following recommendations from the National Working Committee (NWC).

The committee is expected to review, scrutinize, and deliberate on reports submitted by the National Screening Committee and make final decisions regarding the screening outcomes of all aspirants seeking to contest under the party’s platform.

The 20-member committee is chaired by Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe.

The statement explained that the committee’s primary responsibility is to ensure that only aspirants who successfully pass through the screening and clearance process are permitted to purchase nomination forms.

The party appealed to aspirants, stakeholders, and members for patience and cooperation, noting that the selection process is being conducted under tight timelines aimed at ensuring fairness, consensus-building, and party unity.

According to the NDC, where consensus arrangements fail among aspirants, the party will conduct direct primaries between May 28 and May 30, 2026, in line with party guidelines.

The National Selection Committee is scheduled to be formally inaugurated on Monday, May 25, 2026, after which it will immediately commence its duties.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a transparent, credible, and inclusive selection process capable of strengthening internal democracy and positioning the NDC for electoral success in 2027.
