ADC Raises Alarm Over Insecurity in Kwara Following Deadly Attack on Kemanji Community

The Kwara State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned a recent deadly attack on Kemanji community in Kaiama Local Government Area, describing the incident as a stark reminder of the worsening security situation in the state.

In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Ibraheem Alfa Abdulrasheed Gbagba, the party expressed concern over what it called the growing vulnerability of rural communities and the apparent failure of authorities to adequately address the threat.

Soldiers Killed in Line of Duty

The statement confirmed the loss of four soldiers during the attack, describing their deaths as a significant blow not only to their families but also to national security efforts.

According to the ADC, the incident highlights the increasing risks faced by both security personnel and civilians in affected areas. The party warned that continued attacks could further erode public confidence in the ability of government institutions to ensure safety.

Concerns Over Rising Insecurity

The opposition party criticized what it described as a lack of urgency by the Kwara State Government in addressing security challenges, particularly in rural communities.

It noted that repeated warnings and calls for proactive measures had not been sufficiently acted upon, resulting in escalating fear among residents. Many locals, the statement said, are reportedly fleeing their homes due to persistent threats, raising concerns about displacement and humanitarian conditions.

Call for Immediate Government Action

The ADC urged the Kwara State Government to move beyond what it termed “rhetoric” and take concrete steps to restore security. Among its recommendations were:

  • Immediate deployment of additional security personnel to affected communities
  • Strengthening intelligence gathering and coordination with local security networks
  • Increased engagement with community leaders to establish early warning systems
  • Provision of urgent assistance and protection for displaced residents

Warning to Authorities

The party warned that failure to act decisively could embolden criminal groups and worsen the security crisis. It stressed that protecting lives and property remains a fundamental responsibility of government.

The statement also cautioned that leadership would be judged by its response to the crisis, urging authorities to act swiftly to prevent further loss of life.

Broader Implications

Security challenges have remained a major concern across several parts of Nigeria, with rural communities often bearing the brunt of attacks. Analysts say incidents like the one in Kaiama highlight the need for coordinated responses involving both federal and state authorities.

Call for Peace

The ADC concluded by offering condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and calling for peace, justice, and improved security across the state.

As of the time of reporting, the Kwara State Government has not issued an official response to the latest incident.
