The United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, has sharply criticised the United Nations, accusing it of failing to effectively address global conflicts and drifting from its core mandate.
Speaking during a recent engagement, Waltz said the UN’s budget has significantly increased over time without a corresponding improvement in global peace and stability. He argued that despite expanded funding, conflicts continue to persist in various regions of the world.
The envoy also raised concerns about what he described as the organisation’s tendency to recognise or engage with authoritarian regimes, stating that such actions undermine its credibility on the global stage.
In addition, Waltz criticised the UN for promoting what he termed “costly ideological agendas,” suggesting that the organisation should refocus its priorities on maintaining international peace and security.
His remarks come amid ongoing debates about the effectiveness and reform of the United Nations, as member states continue to assess its role in addressing modern global challenges.
