Abuja, Nigeria — The National Working Committee (NWC) of the (NRM), under the leadership of its National Chairman, , has strongly rejected what it described as a “coordinated campaign of calumny, distortion and sponsored agitation” allegedly being orchestrated by disgruntled elements within the party.
In a press statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Chinedu Anselem Nebeife, the NWC stated that its attention had been drawn to what it termed deliberate attempts by “a handful of frustrated and compromised individuals” who still parade themselves as members of the party’s leadership, to undermine the authority of the current executive.
Court Judgment Cited as Basis of Legitimacy
The party maintained that on March 5, 2025, the , Abuja Division, delivered what it described as a binding judgment directing the (INEC) to recognise the Chief Edozie Njoku-led NWC.
According to the statement, the judgment “has neither been vacated nor set aside” and remains the subsisting legal position. The NWC argued that any refusal to implement the ruling was not administrative oversight but “institutional resistance” under the immediate past INEC leadership headed by .
Allegations of Obstruction and Internal Collaboration
The statement further alleged that the failure to comply with the court order culminated in what it described as the “imposition of a gubernatorial candidate” on the party during the last Anambra Governorship Election. It characterised the development as a deliberate act of obstruction rather than bureaucratic error.
The NWC also accused certain party members of collaborating with external interests for “pecuniary inducement and external patronage,” alleging that those currently vocal on social media were engaged in efforts to derail the party’s progress.
“This is not an internal disagreement over procedure,” the statement read. “It is a calculated attempt to frustrate lawful leadership at the very moment the party stands on the threshold of institutional clarity and recognition.”
Confidence in Regulatory Engagement
The party disclosed that engagements at the highest regulatory levels were ongoing and expressed confidence in the current leadership of INEC, stating that it has so far demonstrated commitment to due process and constitutional compliance.
“The law is not negotiable and recognition is not a favour. Mandate is not merchandise,” the statement declared.
Call for Calm and Internal Discipline
Addressing party members nationwide, the NWC urged calm and steadfastness, warning against amplifying what it termed “mercenary tendencies, confusion, sabotage and betrayal.” It assured members that constitutional mechanisms within the party would be activated against those found culpable of anti-party activities.
“Discipline is not vengeance. It is preservation,” the statement emphasised, adding that the National Rescue Movement was built on “conviction, legality and strategic patience.”
The NWC concluded by affirming that the party remains intact and its leadership lawful, insisting that no amount of agitation would derail what it described as settled matters of law and legitimacy.
Long live the National Rescue Movement.
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
