Nigerian Afrobeats singer Oluwatobiloba Anidugbe, popularly known as Kizz Daniel, has revealed that the death of his mother earlier this year was the reason he stepped away from music for a period.
The singer made the disclosure on Friday while responding to a fan on X who suggested that his absence from the music scene might have been caused by preparations for a new album. Kizz Daniel clarified that his break was instead prompted by the loss in his family.
“I paused for my Mom not an album … Lost her this year, but I gotta keep moving for the rest of the family,” the singer wrote, adding an apology to fans for returning later than expected this year.
The revelation offers an explanation for the relatively reduced musical activity from the Buga hitmaker in 2026. His comments also showed that his decision to step away was connected to bereavement rather than a planned creative hiatus for a new album.
The singer’s statement attracted sympathy from fans and followers, many of whom responded with condolences and prayers for him and his family.
Kizz Daniel has previously experienced significant personal losses. His father died in 2015, while one of his triplets died shortly after birth in 2021. In 2025, the singer also disclosed that his wife had lost her mother in 2024 while discussing personal experiences that influenced his music.
Despite the difficult period, Kizz Daniel said he has returned to his professional responsibilities and intends to keep moving forward for the rest of his family. His comments have also given fans greater context for his quieter presence in the Nigerian music industry this year.
Known for songs including Woju, Buga and Twe Twe, Kizz Daniel remains one of Nigeria’s prominent Afrobeats artistes, with his career spanning several years of music releases, performances and international recognition.
