Nissi Sparks Reactions After Claiming She Sings Better Than Brother Burna Boy

Nigerian singer and songwriter Nissi Ogulu has stirred reactions after making a bold comparison between her vocal abilities and those of her brother, Grammy-winning Afrobeats star Burna Boy.

Nissi made the statement during an interview with Cool FM, where she discussed her music career and her relationship with her famous sibling. She maintained that while Burna Boy may have an advantage over her in rap, she believes she has the stronger singing ability.

“I am better than Burna Boy at singing and almost everything. He is only better than me at rapping,” Nissi said.

She further claimed that the siblings had previously discussed the issue and agreed that she was the better singer.

“We both actually agreed on the fact that I was a better singer,” she added.

The comment has attracted attention largely because of Burna Boy’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s most successful contemporary musicians. His distinctive voice and musical style have contributed to his international recognition, while Nissi has continued to develop a career of her own.

However, Nissi’s comparison appears to be more of a personal assessment of their different musical strengths than a dismissal of her brother’s accomplishments. Her acknowledgement of Burna Boy’s advantage in rap also suggests that the siblings recognise distinct strengths in each other.

The discussion is significant because Nissi has increasingly established herself beyond her connection to Burna Boy. In addition to music, she has explored creative and technology-related ventures, building a multifaceted career.

Nissi, whose full name is Jehovah-Nissi Ogulu, is the younger sister of Burna Boy and the daughter of talent manager Bose Ogulu. She began pursuing music professionally in the mid-2010s and has released projects including Ignite and Unboxed.

Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, has meanwhile built a globally recognised career with his Afro-fusion sound and numerous international collaborations.

Nissi’s latest remarks have once again placed the musical siblings in the spotlight and sparked conversations about their individual talents and artistic identities.
