Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has called on Nigerian youths and celebrities to take a more active role in politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Frank said the outcome of the recently concluded Osun State governorship election demonstrated the influence voters can have when they participate actively and insist that their votes are counted.
He particularly praised Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, for his involvement in the election and urged young Nigerians to emulate his political engagement.
“Going into 2027, I call on Nigerian youths and celebrities alike to borrow a leaf from Davido, as this is not the time to sit on the fence. Nigeria belongs to all of us,” Frank said.
Frank argued that the Osun election could offer lessons for the 2027 presidential contest, insisting that Nigerian voters would ultimately determine President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political future.
“President Tinubu may think he already has his election results in mind, but ultimately, it’s the Nigerian people who will decide his fate through the power of their votes,” he said.
The former APC chieftain also urged voters not only to cast their ballots but to remain at polling centres until the counting and verification processes are completed.
“Let 2027 not be business as usual. They must vote, stay, and see their votes counted, just as they have done in Osun,” he added.
Frank’s remarks are significant as opposition politicians continue to discuss strategies for challenging the APC in 2027. He has also advocated greater cooperation among opposition parties, arguing that political fragmentation could work in favour of the ruling party.
Davido’s role in the Osun election attracted considerable attention because he openly supported his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, during the campaign.
Adeleke subsequently secured re-election, defeating APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji.
While the Osun result may provide lessons about voter mobilisation and grassroots participation, the 2027 presidential election will involve a much broader national electorate.
With political realignments already underway, Frank’s appeal places youth participation, voter vigilance and electoral accountability at the centre of preparations for the next general election.
