The Federal Government has commenced the process of compensating Nigerians affected by xenophobic attacks in South Africa by issuing claims forms to eligible victims.
The initiative is aimed at documenting losses suffered by Nigerian citizens and businesses during episodes of violence, looting and destruction linked to repeated attacks on foreign nationals in South Africa.
Officials said the claims forms will enable affected individuals to provide details of damaged or destroyed property, financial losses and other hardships experienced during the attacks. The information gathered is expected to support efforts to assess claims and determine appropriate compensation or other forms of assistance.
The Federal Government noted that the exercise forms part of ongoing diplomatic engagements with South African authorities and broader efforts to protect the rights and welfare of Nigerians living abroad.
