A United States-based lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has raised questions about the authenticity of a purported “thank you” letter attributed to U.S. President Donald Trump and circulated by an account associated with Nigeria’s Presidency.
According to reports, the firm compared a verified diplomatic letter sent by President Trump to Argentine President Javier Milei with the version shared by the Facebook account PBATMediaCentre, highlighting differences in formatting, presentation, and the signature block. The firm argued that these discrepancies warrant closer scrutiny.
However, the firm stated that it was not asserting that no diplomatic correspondence was ever sent to President Bola Tinubu, nor was it directly accusing Tinubu of fabricating the document. Instead, it questioned why the Nigerian public had not been shown a scanned copy of the purported original letter bearing an official signature and White House formatting.
The controversy has generated debate on social media and in political circles, with critics arguing that the Presidency should release the original document to dispel doubts, while supporters maintain that the existence or authenticity of the letter should not be judged solely on the basis of publicly circulated images.
As of now, there has been no publicly available independent confirmation from the White House regarding the authenticity of the specific document under dispute.
